Re: Installing firmware msm460

Hello

After switching the AP to autonomous mode you should have access to the webUI where you have a menu for updating the firmware. What exactly means that the AP locks access?

You are not getting the webUI and you cannot enter the credentials? Did you test if you can ping the AP in this state? If ping is working, did you test with different browsers? Did you test if you can access the AP via SSH and login with admin/admin?

Or you are getting the webUI login prompt but your credentials are not accepted? Are you using the default credentials admin/admin or some credentials you configured?

Do you know what the current firmware version of the AP is? The version should be displayed in the webUI on the same screen where you have the buttin "Switch to autonomous mode"

It may be also important how was the AP used by now? Did you use with an HPE MSM controller? With an HPE Unified controller? Or it was autonomous?

Hello

The procedure below was performed

1. Isolate the computer and the unit so they are not connected on a network with any other
devices.
Attach the crossover LAN cable from the PC to the LAN port of the unit. Do not attach any cables
to the Internet port of the unit.
NOTE: If you do not isolate the PC and unit and there is a DHCP server on the network, the unit
will obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. In that case, substitute that IP address in the
rest of the instructions where, 192.168.1.1 is mentioned.
2. Statically assign an IP address to the PC on subnet 192.168.1.x, in the range of .2 - .254
3. Use the end of a paper clip to press and hold the reset button until the front status LEDs
flash together at a rate of approximately twice/second (the LEDs will flash together slowly
first, and then start flashing faster). Then release the reset button. The unit will now start up
in TFTP boot mode.
(NOTE for MSM720: Follow the instructions above for factory reset but hold the clear button until
the LEDs flash together at a rate of approximately twice/second. NOTE for MSM466-R: A paperclip
is not necessary.)
4. On the PC, open a command window, change directories so that you are in the directory where
you’ve saved the startup.cim file, and type the following commands:
arp -d 192.168.1.1
ping 192.168.1.1

Command used when pushing an image via TFTP (If the ping command does not work, see
Troubleshooting below).
tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put xxx.cim.startup image
The transfer should take fewer than 10 seconds to complete during which time the LAN LED will
indicate activity. You can confirm that the firmware is being flashed on the AP/Controller by
seeing two distinct sets of flashing LEDs, the second one being much longer duration than the
first. Give the AP/Controller ample time to reboot (5 minutes to be sure).
5. Perform a factory reset of the AP/Controller by following the instructions detailed above.
6. On the PC, ping the AP/Controller using the command: ping 192.168.1.1 The AP/Controller
should now be in the same state as when it is s

After executing the procedure sent by HP together with the image V6.6.9.1-MSM430-MSM460_Bootware_wNewDay-B23594.cim.startup when initializing presents the screen below:

Hello,

If I am not wrong you have also an open support case at the moment. Maybe it is better for you to get the instructions from one point of contact. I will contact the colleague and we will coordinate the next steps.

Hello,

The log messages you are seeing indicate that your HP 560 is running a Comware image at the moment. This is the case because this AP was previously controlled by an HPE Unified Wired WLAN controller like HP 830, 850, 870, 10500 Wlan module etc. The Comware image doesnt support AP autonomous mode, only controlled mode and in this case the AP firmware is updated automatically by the controller

If your goal is to run the AP in autonomouls mode and be able to update and manage it separately you have to go to the download page of the AP and select release 6.5.0.0.

https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/DownloadSoftware.aspx?SoftwareReleaseUId=11588&ProductNumber=J9846A&lang=&cc=&prodSeriesId=&SaidNumber=

Download from this page the zip archive V6.5.0.0-HP560-B19493.zip.

Here you can find a couple of files. Please first read the pdf document called HP_UnifiedToMSM(TFTP)_instructions.pdf If I understand your requirements correctly in Step 2 you need to follow Load Method 2 Using TFTP. because you dont have an MSM controller.  Please note that for this instruction you need to use the V6.5.0.0-HP560-B19493.cim.startup file not the V6.5.0.0-HP560-MSM410-MSM430-MSM460-MSM466-MSM466R-B19493.cim file.

After finishing the procedure you should be able to switch the AP to autonomous mode using the WebUI. In the webUI you can update to any version you want if you are entitled to run this version.

Let me know if you have any questions or something is not working as expected.

Hello ,

Thanks for the response and the screenshots!

I see that you have entered the Comware Boot Menu and you have initiated the download from this menu. This is not the correct procedure. The fact that you can see the Comware boot menu means that you didnt follow the steps exactly. Especially step 5 of Load Method 2: Using TFTP.

5. Using a paper clip, press and hold the AP reset button until the AP status LEDs flash at a rate of
approximately twice/second (the LEDs will initially flash at a slower rate before flashing at the faster
rate), then release the reset button.
The AP starts up in TFTP boot mode.

If you can access the Comware boot menu this means that the AP is not in a TFTP boot mode. Please repeat the procedure following the steps exactly as described in the document. Dont use the Bootware Menu to do anything. Try to use TFTP from a Windows machine as described in the document. If you prefer using TFTPd have a look at this document for more details.

I have an MSM460 and I am having recovery problems, I would like the access point .cim.startup file to take the equipment via tftp

Re: HP MSM460

Hello,

The cim.startup files are not available on the official download page. Please contact your local HPE/Aruba support, report the issue of the AP and request a cim.startup file. The AP MSM460 has a life time warranty on the HW.

I'm also looking for a .cim.startup file compatible with our MSM430.  Its a brazilian version JL009-60011, brand new in the box and phone support told me they can't help...
I've tried the 560 version but it didn't work well, in fact it put one AP in a weird state, where it would reboot every 30 minutes and the web interface is all strange, not really working...

Hi, what should we do when the local HP phone support(Brazil) say they don't have access to this .startup firmwares anymore and the AP is absolete, so they can't do anything about it? I have two brand new units on the original boxes that can't be used and can't be converted to standalone mode withou the proper .cim.startup file for this model(JL009-60011) MSM430-BR

Hi

Our 4 HP MSM 760 controllers does not display the radio and clients stats on the controllers anymore. The clients is connected to the AP but on the controller is shows no clients. When checking in the events log of the AP's that is connected to the controller, we can see clients connected successfull to the AP's.
