Re: V6.5.0.1-HP560-B19720.cim.STARTUP on msm4xx

Hello,

Please try again to put the AP in boot mode:  Use a paper clip or other tool to hold in the reset button for prolonged time (one will notice a slow flashing followed by a fast flashing). When the light is flashing quickly the access point is in BOOT mode, and the reset button can be released.

Delete the ARP cache of your laptop with arp -d.

Test with another cable between the AP and your laptop. Make sure that you are using a crossover cable. If you cannot use a cross over cable you can use a switch to connect your PC and the AP but you have to make sure that they are in an isolated VLAN with only the AP and your PC in it.

Double check if your PC has a static IP in the range 192.168.1.x/24.

MSM310 (J9379A) IP Helper or DHCP Relay configuration

Hello,

I recently move my DHCP server from a Cisco 887 to our own Windows 2016 DHCP server and try to add my 2 MSM 310 to this new structure as Autonomous Access points.

Previously I was able to get IP addresses from the Cisco switch end without any issues but right now I am still able to access to the HTTP interface of the MSM310 but it is not giving out IP addresses from the DHCP pool.

I am not able to find any useful information regarding on the DHCP relay or IP helper setting nor at the user manual or at the web interface either.

Thanks for your help and support.

Regards,

Hello

It is not possible to configure DHCP relay on the AP.

The AP will forward the wireless traffic to a wired VLAN on the switch side. It can be either the default VLAN of the AP (if you dont speficy egress VLAN in the VSC) or some separate non-default VLAN (specified in the VSC menu under egress VLAN).

DHCP relay or ip helper should be configured on the switch or router which acts as default gateway for the wifi client VLAN.

When the CIsco router was DHCP server it was probably working because the router was default gateway and DHCP server at the same time.

MSM460 not have "autonomus mode"

Hi All,

I bought used MSM460 AP (J9591-60001:52-A, Bootware-6.6.0.0-22530), but it doesn`t have "Autonomus mode" button on web interface, only "Provision".
If I try change mode from CLI, I see next message Validate image header ... OK
Validate image personality ... OK
Validate firmware supports autonomous mode ... OK
Verifying checksum ... Boot: bad Data CRC

Factory reset, from CLI or Button, doesn't help.

Hello,

Most probably the previous owner of the AP has used a Unified wired WLAN controller to manage this AP.  Usually all you need to do is perform a factory reset with the reset button: Press and hold the button  - the LEDs will go on, then they will start flashing slowly, after the 3rd slow flash release the reset button. The AP will boot with the default IP 192.168.1.1, credentials admin/admin and there should be an option to switch the AP to autonomous mode.

If this is not working and you still dont see an option to switch the AP to autonomous mode, you need to push a new MSM .cim.startup file to the AP via TFTP. This is the same procedure that is described in this document for the AP HP 560

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c04514138&withFrame

page 3 and 4 Load method 2: Using TFTP

The cim.startup file is not publicly available, I think it can be downloaded only for the AP HP 560 but this file is not suitable for MSM460. You need a cim.startup file which has the model MSM430 in the name, for example

V6.5.1.0--MSM430-MSM460-B23187.cim.startup

The correct cim.startup file can only be provided by the support. So please open a case on your local hotline and ask for a cim.startup file for your AP.

Thanks,

I tried cim.sturtup for MSM560, my MSM460 accepted it and fix this problem

Re: VSC to egress Internet port VLAN

I ran into a situation yesterday where I needed to have a VSC tunnel the traffic back to the 760 controller, then egress out of the Internet port on a separate VLAN.  I was looking for a straight 'bridged' connection between the two, so basically the VSC traffic would be dumped onto the VLAN, facilitated by going through the controller.

Problem is, it didn't work.  I'm not sure why or what I did wrong.  I think I tried everything, choosing 'always tunnel client traffic', selecting/unselecting 'authentication' and 'access control', with/without the built-in DHCP server.  When traffic passed, it would pass to the AP's management VLAN and get DHCP from there.  I would also get DHCP from the controller when 'always tunnel' was checked and DHCP was listening on the Client Data Tunnel.

Does anyone have any insight as to how I can make this work, though either the LAN port or preferably the Internet port?  All I am looking for is a Cisco-esque 'Local' wireless network.  In the Cisco world what I'm looking for happens right out of the box.

You should be able to do this just fine, guest networks are just access controlled VSCs that throw up a login page. I seem to recall doing this with a pair of MSM765s but it was years ago. Just create an access controlled VSC with HTML auth enabled and local radius selected, then create a test user on the users tab. Deploy the VSC to test group and give it a spin. Make sure you set up a proper WPA key and proper vlan traffic  egress on the test network as to not compromise your network security.

MSM410 Web UI page does not appeared via IE11

Hello!
We Use MSM410 under control of MSM750.

I want to replace the AP for another IP address setting.
I remove it and reset the AP to factory settings, the web interface page with the default IP address does not be displayed.
The ping passes.

It seems that IE 11 has removed SSL 2.0 in the latest Windows 10.
I cannot be accessed from the console port too.
How do I configure an AP?

Yes, we are looking for Windows 7 PCs, but they are all upgraded to Windows 10.

Hello,

Probably the AP is running an older firmware version that still supports SSLv3 for HTTPS access. SSLv3 is not secure and for this reason it is disabled on the most current versions of the browsers.

First you can check if enabling SSLv3 on IE can enable the access. In IE go to Internet Options, Advanced, scroll down to subsection Securty and set the checkbox before Use SSL 3.0. Click Apply.

If this is not working you can try to use an older browser version. You can search for Opera 9.20.  In the config settings of Opera search for "OCSP Validate Certificates" and uncheck it. With this settings you should be able to open the GUI of the AP.

msm760 msm430 waiting for acceptance

Hello,

we have a msm 760 controler and msm 430 APs. Some of the APs wont't connect to the controler anymore. I already did a factory Reset on the APs and connected them directly to the 760 as a test. The APs where connected to the controler some time ago. They keep in a loop saying "waiting for acceptance".

To solve the Problem, iI did a firmware upgrade on the controler to version 6.6.9.1-23594. But i can't manually update the APs who don't whant to connect, because they are too old so i can't download the firmware for free anymore. So i can't tell, if the firmware is responsible for the Problem. But all connected APs got their firmware update from the controler and work fine.

I am going crazy...

Hopefully someone can help me

Best regards,

Thomas

Hello,

I would check the following:

Check if the APs are getting their IPs in the same IP subnet where the controller has its IP address for AP discovery or in a different subnet. If the APs are in the different subnet, please check if the controller has a route to this subnet or a default route. If there is no route the controller can receive discovery requests from APs but cannot answer because it doesnt know how to reach the subnet of the APs.

Another possible scenario is that you have more than 1 controller or controller team which is visible to the AP, If they have the same priority, the APs can be confused to which controller they should connect. You should make sure that the controllers have different priorities or possibly provision the AP to use a specific controller IP address of discovery. Before an AP has discovered a controller, you should be able to access it via HTTPS and provision some settings on it.

You can use the LEDs on the AP in order to determine in which state of the discovery is the AP stuck, ou can check the different patterns here on page 5 and 6.

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=c04915287

Regarding the firmware of the APs. When the APs are controlled by a controller, their SW support is determined by the entitlement of the controller. If the controller is entitled to run 6.6.9.1 the APs should also be entitled to run it. So if you indicate to the support that this AP should be operating in controlled mode and you need to update it separately in order to resolve a synchronization issue, it should be possible to obtain it.

The MSM765 controller is reporting these certificates about to expire:

Management Console Dummy Authority HP Management console 2010-05-19 2020-05-16

Management Console Default client certificate Management Console Dummy Authority HP Management console 2010-05-19 2020-05-16

The current listed firmware here is about a year old:

Does anyone have some info on the renewal, or where the certs might be downloaded?

Hello,
At the moment there is no firmware version which renews this certificates and no new certificates are available for download. The question was brought to the attention of the lab and the support is also waiting for information if this certificates will be renewed until the 16 of May.
According to the documentation this certificates are used when the management tool communicates with the HP PCM/PMM (ProCurve Mobility Manager) software.
PCM/PMM are end of support since December 2015 so there shouldnt be many customers using this tools nowadays. For this reason it is possible that there is no renew.
Going to Controller -->Management ->Management Console will let you see if you are using the certificates. If you don't have an IP address of a Mobility Manager then the controller is not managed by a mobility manager and the expiring certificates are not needed.

We are currently checking if this certificates may be necessary for other types of management platforms like iMC or AirWave.

This is the not the same certificate, you are referring to.

I will update the post once I have more information.
