Hi,

Please find link to download the firmware for this Access point, hope its a standanone AP.

https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J9427B

Release notes in this link will have the procedure to upgrade the firmware.

Please note that it may not be a direct upgrade from existing verion to the latest, read the release notes for upgrade restrictions.

Many thanks for the link.

However after trying to download the firmware, logging in and entering the item serial number I get the following message:

"Software Updates Download Access
Our records indicate your entitlement period to download this software has expired.
"

So I am back to square one.

Hi,

I think you need to have a support contract to download the software.

Hi,

What is the IP Address that you are trying to ping or access. If you are tyring to ping any user defined IP address, try  to ping 192.168.1.1 (Factory default IP) from your PC (Eg: by configuring it with 192.168.1.2).

Alternatively check the AP status by connecting through a console cable

To reset the AP to factory defaults, press the button until the status lights blink three times, then release.

Refer installation guide for Factory default procedure:

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_sf-EN_US000005532

Hi Fishow,

Did anything change? lightning? power outage?

1. Reset ap - uplug ap, hold reset button, plug ap in. release reset button once all the lights flashed 3x time. The ap goes into a different mode if you hold reset for 6 seconds. (I have had to do reset upto 6x on MSM460's before they actual reset, which are almost the same as 430)

2. It sounds like your provisioning has been lost. the reset above should set it to factory default and dhcp, and clear provisioning settings. Then the controller should pick them up. The way you describe the flashing sounds like the aps looking for the controller.

3. Check that the controller is not waiting for you to confirm the aps. Sometimes they are seen as "suspicious" and you must accept them on the controller.

4. Also check that the controller is not trying to configure static ip addresses under provisioning.

Thanks for all the replies!

Meantime I had a chance to contact HPE Support and after several tests also via shared screen, they sent a replacement - and that works. So most probably the 4 devices from one shipment (neighbour serial numbers) went wrong during the past weeks,

MSM765 ath_txq_stuck_checker System Log Critical Errors

Any one else seeing these errors?  I started seeing these a few days ago after noticing a large increase in snmp traffic.  Here is a sample:

Feb 8 10:14:38.799 crit MacAddress of AP kernel: ath_txq_stuck_checker ******** Software Q-3 is stuck txq:428663 txq_buf:1 mcast:31 !!!!

Feb 8 09:57:49.398 crit MacAddress of AP kernel: resetting the queues reset with LOSS for radio:wifi1

My system:
MSM765 dual controllers firmware 6.6.9.0
About 200 AP's, mostly MSM430 and MSM460

History: Upgraded to 6.6.9.0 from 6.6.8.2 and these errors started occurring about 10 days later. There were no other changes to config, etc.
Troubleshooting so far: Have not noticed any impact on users as yet. Have tried disabling SNMP, turning off QOS in the VSC's, and turning off LLDP without any effect. Have rebooted all APs, the controllers, and have removed each of the dual controllers to eliminate hardware without any effect -- the errors continue.

I do not know if the firmware upgrade had anything to do with it as the problems did not start until about 10 days later.  Errors are from seemingly random AP's in the network, but maybe 20-30% have the errors at any point in time.

How do I do that and how much does this cost?

This unit is only capable of 300Mbits/s which is no no longer cuirrent technology. A new TP-Link I purchased for £50 is capable of 1,750Mbits/s and pessimistic if HP genuinely support older units.

Many thanks.

If you make an HPE account and try using the serial # of the device, it will only allow one to dowload the firmware that was allowed during the "entitlement" period for that AP.  I tried with one I have and received the "entitlement period" expired message for the newest firmware, but if I tried to download the firmware that was older like within a year of mfg date it allowed it.  Takes a little trial and error to find the latest firmware allowed.  Otherwise a support contract is required.  But it is pretty well known that the MSM410 units were among the worst made of this series and not just for rated speed.  They can work for light duty, but just about any other AP in the series is better.  An MSM430, MSM460, or HP 560 are all good.  Comparing a business class HP AP to a consumer TP-Link, well that's a crap shoot.

Support agreement part numbers can be found here by entering a serial number:

http://ssc.hpe.com/portal/site/ssc/

I tried it for an MSM460 and the lowest priced agreement was $47 retail (might do better running the part number through google for price checks with other vendors).

Hi,

As per internal update, these are nomral  recovery mechanism messages. This version (6.6.9.0) is introduced wth new recovery mechanisms to mitigate "stuck queue" issues and is related to soft reset of the radio.

If you start seeing these messages more frequently and impacting the network, you may log a support case for deeper investigation.

Many thanks for the idea. I will try to go over various ages of firmware to home in on the most recent I can download.

I wasn't intending a 'crap shoot'. I bought a TP_Link bridge for £42+VAT that has Gigabit ethernet and 1750mbps on dual wavebands. That makes this HP unit archaic in comparison where it seems any recent update, that I was expecting to be free, will cost most than my new TP-Link. All the HP MSM410 / J9427B can do is 300mbps.

You may be falling into the trap where you expect business oriented equipment is more expensive, but that it very shortsighted if the cheap consumer oriented unit is easy to setup and is reliable.

I have recently lost the ability to log into the MSM775 Web GUI With any passwords. When using the services command i get an error that saya "no services installed". This controller has been up and running for several years and is always running the latest updates. The controller in in a 5406R zl2 switch. This problem showed up right out of the blue with no help from me lol. The module shows as running but not the service. without the service running i am unable to login to recover admin password or view any configuration. I don't want to factory reset and reconfig. Anybody seen this problem before? I can't figure this one out. I have a support ticket open with HP but so far they are puzzled. Any help please.

I entered my product details and got:

Support Services Central

No HPE Support Services were found for your selection.

Please use the following tips to identify the valid product number:

• Use the product number appearing on your invoice or service tag.

• Product numbers with "AV" will need the warranty reference, also ending with "AV" and appearing on your invoice or in the service tag on the back of your PC.

• Please remove any localisation or feature code like #ABA from your product number.

It seems the version I already have, namely 5.7.0.2 seems the most recent version I can download.

If I try and download the following version:

9427BHP MSM410 Access Point (WW)
Software:HP MSM Software Release V5.7.0.3 (Previous ReleasesAll software for this product
Serial number / Install ID: ------- Purchase date:08-Jun-2012

Some 7 years old, I still get:

Software Updates Download Access
Our records indicate your entitlement period to download this software has expired

As someone said here HP products don't compare with noddy companies like TP_Link.

Sheesh

and so on...

Any clue what cause the error and how can I fix it?

Hi,

What is the software version running on the controller. Seen these kind of messages for another controller and after an upgrade the issue is fixed. If the code running is older, try upgrading to latest and see if it fixes.

MSM 760 controller recovery image

Greetings,

We have MSM760 controller which worked fine for few years, but recently refused to load system after reboot.

I powered it on with Hyperterminal / console cable and saw that after BIOS POST messages there is no OS loading activity.
After opening device case cover and examining HDD it appeared that HDD got broken (makes clicking sound and not being detected in device manager when connected to Windows PC)

Is it possible to obtain some recovery image to make fresh install on new, replaced, blank HDD ?

Than you,
Alex
